HUMBOLDT, IA : 12-year-old boy killed in Humboldt County crash on Sunday, September 24th 2017
A 12-year-old boy has died after the car he was riding in was hit head-on by a wrong-way driver, according to Iowa State Patrol crash reports.
The crash occurred at about 7:50 p.m. Sunday night, east of Humboldt on Iowa Highway 3.
Kevin Ahlstrom, 39, of Humboldt, was driving a Buick LaCrosse and traveling westbound. Brady Ahlstrom, 12, of Humboldt, was a passenger in the car.
Trisha Luthro, 40, of Badger, was driving a Ford Edge SUV.
She was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane, the Iowa State Patrol reported.
The two vehicles collided head-on at the crest of a hill, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Brady Ahlstrom was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kevin Ahlstrom and Trisha Luthro were transported by ambulance to Humboldt County Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Both suffered incapacitating injuries.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department and Humboldt EMS were on scene.
The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
