The N.C. Highway Patrol says a 17-year-old was killed and seven others were injured after the pickup truck they were riding in hit a ditch on a Brunswick County road. Local media outlets report 17-year-old Tyrus Johnston of Shallotte died of injuries he suffered in the accident on Holden Beach Road in Supply. According to the patrol, the group had been visiting Ocean Isle Beach. The investigating trooper says Johnston and two others were sitting in the truck bed at the time of the accident Sunday morning. Of the seven injured, six were seriously injured and the other was considered critically hurt. An investigation into the crash is continuing, but the patrol says alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
