JACKSON TWP, PA : Two people were injured in a high-speed crash on Sunday, June 11, 2017
Interstate-79 was closed for several hours Saturday after two people were injured in a high-speed crash.
The crash, involving a car and a pickup truck, happened around 8:40 a.m. in the northbound part of the highway near the Route 68 exit.
One driver was ejected from their vehicle and flown to a Pittsburgh hospital via medical helicopter, which landed at UPMC Passavant Hospital in Cranberry Township, Harmony Fire Captain Brian Dambaugh said.
Another driver was transported to Pittsburgh by ambulance.
One driver was male and one was female, but other details were not immediately available.
Harmony Fire District, Harmony EMS, state police and Jackson Township and Zelienople police responded to the crash and Cranberry Volunteer Fire Department responded to help with traffic control.
State police were doing a reconstruction of the crash and planned to have the highway closed for several hours after fire units cleared the scene around 10 a.m.
Northbound vehicles were detoured through Zelienople on Route 19 during the closure, which was heavily congested all morning with many vehicles driving north to attend the Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival, he said.
