Newport News, VA : 2 killed, 1 critically injured in Southampton County crash on Wednesday morning, March 15, 2017

The Virginia State Police reconstruction team is investigating a crash that killed two men Wednesday morning, according to state police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya.

The crash happened before 6:30 a.m. when a 2006 Ford F-350 drove off the road and into the trees, where it caught fire, she said. The driver and passenger of the car, both men, were burned beyond recognition and taken to the medical examiner's office for identification, she said.

The third passenger, John Futrell, 64, of North Carolina, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, she said.
