Anderson, SC : Two teens killed after a crash in Anderson County on Wednesday night, August 24, 2016
Two 18-year-old boys died after a crash in Anderson County Wednesday night, according to Anderson County Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman.
The single-car collision occurred on Airline Road and True Temper Road in Anderson at around 9:16 p.m.
The teens were traveling south in a 2001 Chevy Tahoe on True Temper Road when it ran a stop sign across Airline Road and hit several trees.
The driver, Lenard Tanner of Baltic Road in Anderson, was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 10 p.m.
The passenger, Calvin Malik Chester of Melrose Road in Anderson, died at the scene. Both teens suffered multiple injuries in the crash.
High speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation, Boseman said. According to the coroner, Tanner reportedly tested positive for alcohol and had a BAC of twice the legal limit.
Chester graduated from Crescent High School in May. A spokesperson for the school said he was well-known, active, hardworking and outgoing. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help pay for Chester's funeral expenses.
Tanner had recently moved back to South Carolina from Florida, according to family. He was an employee at Chipotle on Clemson Boulevard.
