Traverse City, MI : Driver dies in single vehicle crash in Milton Township Tuesday evening, July 26, 2016

A driver died after their vehicle crashed into a tree and erupted into flames.

Witnesses in an unrelated vehicle spotted the 2016 Toyota Camry driving south at a high speed on Northwest Torch Lake Drive south of Indian Road in Milton Township Tuesday evening, a release from Antrim County sheriff's deputies stated.

The witnesses noticed the vehicle was continuing past Indian Road toward a dead end and followed the vehicle and saw it had struck an older tree head-on and caught fire and was fully engulfed within a few minutes, the release stated.

Deputies and emergency crews responded to the 911 call at about 6:40 p.m. and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical examiner, the release stated.

The vehicle was a rental from Enterprise Car Rental and the driver was the sole occupant.

The incident is under investigation.
