OCONEE COUNTY, SC : Spartanburg Co. woman dies Saturday in scuba diving accident on Saturday, July 29, 2017

A scuba diving trip with friends on Lake Keowee turned deadly on Saturday when a 43-year-old woman from Boiling Springs went missing before 5 p.m. during a dive near a popular beach and dive spot close to the Oconee Nuclear Station.

Angelia Maria Dover was diving with three companions in water 50-55 feet deep when “she panicked and attempted to surface,” Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said in a news release Saturday evening.

“An attempt to rescue her [by her friends] failed and she disappeared,” Addis said.

Dover was located in water 55 feet deep by an Oconee County dive team at 5:13 p.m. She was pronounced dead at 6:07 p.m. at GHS-Oconee Memorial Hospital.Autopsy findings will be released Monday, Addid said.
