JOUISVILLE, KY : 3 people, including 4-year-old boy, killed in crash on Louisville bridge on Sunday, 6th September, 2020
One of the drivers and a three-year-old passenger hit and killed Sunday in a multi-vehicle collision have been identified by the coroner.
Dawn Sawyers, 34, and her son Lincoln Korb, 3, from Georgetown have been identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. A third victim that also died in the collision has yet to be identified.
The crash happened Sunday evening on the Sherman Minton Bridge around 11:50 p.m. according to Louisville Metro Police.
LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said a Kia SUV was traveling east in the left westbound lane on I-64 on the Sherman Minton Bridge.
Three other vehicles were traveling westbound in that lane. The first vehicle swerved right into the center lane to avoid the SUV. The second vehicle, a Kia Soul driven by Sawyers, was struck head on.
After hitting the Kia Soul, the SUV rotated and hit the third vehicle that was traveling westbound.
The driver of the SUV, as well as the driver and passenger of the Kia Soul, were killed due to the collision. Initial reports from LMPD stated the passenger, Lincoln, was 4 years old.
No one else was injured in the collision, and the investigation is ongoing by LMPD’s Traffic Unit.
