Ohio woman killed in North Union Twp. Crash in Pittsburgh
Fayette County EMS said a motorcycle and a Jeep Grand Cherokee and collided
head-on around 12:20 p.m. on Route 51 near Pittsburgh Road. Police said Joyce McKinney, 61, of Columbiana, Ohio, who was driving the motorcycle, did not survive the crash.
State police said an Ohio woman was killed Sunday in a traffic accident on Route 51 in North Union Township.
Fayette County EMS said a motorcycle and a Jeep Grand Cherokee and collided head-on around 12:20 p.m. on Route 51 near Pittsburgh Road. Police said Joyce McKinney, 61, of Columbiana, Ohio, who was driving the motorcycle, did not survive the crash.
Police said James Hickle, 78, of West Leisenring, who was driving the Jeep, suffered minor injuries.
Police said a second cyclist, Robert McKinney, 75, of Columbiana, Ohio, crashed into the wreckage created by the first collision.
Fayette County EMS said Joyce and Robert McKinney were flown via medical helicopter to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.
Police said Joyce McKinney was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police said Robert McKinney suffered moderate non-life threatening injuries.
Police said both cyclists wore helmets, and Hickle was wearing his seatbelt.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
Police said Joyce and Robert McKinney were traveling north in the southbound lane of Route 51, while Hickle was riding south in the same southbound lane.
Police said Route 51 was closed for about two hours.
Police were assisted by Fayette EMS, West Leisenring, Smock and North Union Twp. volunteer fire departments.
