Tampa, FL : Pedestrian dies in crash on MLK in Tampa on Wednesday night, January 7, 2015
A man was struck by a car and killed late Wednesday while crossing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Armenia Avenue.
Police said the man stepped into the path of a gray sedan about 9:30 p.m. as the car traveled westbound on MLK approaching the intersection.
After the impact, the man fell, struck his head on the curb and died at the scene, police said. The car's windshield was smashed. Police did not release the name of the victim pending notification of his next of kin.
The driver was not charged, and police said alcohol and drugs were not a factor. Police were unsure why the man stepped off the curb in front of the car. An investigation is continuing. The driver's name was not immediately released.
Traffic on MLK was blocked in both directions east of the intersection following the crash.
