Englewood, CO : Wrong-way driver killed in crash at University and Hampden on Sunday evening, July 24, 2016

A wrong-way driver is dead after a crash involving multiple vehicles, according to Colorado State Patrol. It happened Sunday evening before 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of University and Hampden.

Police said the driver was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes on University. The driver was believed to be traveling at a high rate of speed when he struck a brick wall causing the car to go airborne.

The wrong-way driver was ejected and was not restrained in the vehicle. After the driver was ejected, the car continued moving and hit two other vehicles before coming to a stop on its side.

According to State Patrol, no passengers were in the wrong-way car. Occupants in other vehicles were transported to the hospital but police could not elaborate on their conditions or how many other people were involved.

"We heard a big bang," said Kaleb Eshete. "Some debris hit the side of my window."

CSP said it is too early to tell if alcohol or drugs are a factor in the crash.

Police shut down the intersection during the investigation, it was littered with debris.
