Tallahassee, FL : Florida woman killed in Highway 21 crash in Colleton County on Tuesday, September 19th 2017
Officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol and Colleton County Fire and Rescue say a woman from Florida lost her life after a crash on Highway 21, just north of Highway 17-A early Tuesday morning.
At around 7 a.m. Tuesday, a passing driver spotted an overturned Ford Focus in what officials describe as a location "well off the roadway in a wooded area." EMS and fire crews found the only occupant of the car outside of the vehicle with no signs of life.
Officials with Colleton County Fire and Rescue say a thermal imaging camera was used in attempt to locate any additional victims, and none were found.
Crash investigators with the SCHP believe the car ran off the left side of the road, entered the ditch, struck a culvert and then became airborne and struck two trees. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car.
