Buffalo, NY :11 injured in one-vehicle crash that closed I-72 near Buffalo on Saturday, July 4th 2015


Illinois State Police said the four adults and seven children were taken to Springfield hospitals following the 3:30 p.m. crash. None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.The people in the vehicle ranged from a 3-month-old girl to a 34-year-old woman who was driving the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe. The driver and eight of the passengers to were taken to Springfield hospitals by ambulance. Two passengers were transported by helicopter. All of the people are from Champaign, state police said.
The SUV was headed west on the interstate when the driver lost control of the vehicle for some reason and went off the road to the right. The SUV rolled several times before coming to rest upright on the side of the road. Volunteer firefighters from area departments had to cut the top off the SUV to rescue the people trapped inside.
A state police news release issued Sunday did not include the names of the victims, but it did list their genders and ages. The passengers were: a 27-year-old woman, two 29-year-old women, a 10-year-old boy, an 11-year-old boy, a 4-year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy and the 3-month-old girl.
Both westbound lanes of the interstate remained closed for more than five hours so authorities could reconstruct the crash.Eleven people in the SUV would constitute an overloaded vehicle. Charges are pending the completion of the crash investigation, state police said.
