Maugansville, MD : Driver seriously hurt in crash on Interstate 81 at the Maugans Avenue exit on Thursday, 16th January, 2020

The driver of a truck crane was seriously hurt when it crashed on Interstate 81 at the Maugans Avenue exit Thursday morning, snarling traffic in the area for most of the day, authorities said.

Chad Lemaster, 33, of Hedgesville, W.Va., was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore following the 8:05 a.m. crash, according to Maryland State Police.

He was listed in fair condition Thursday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Lemaster was driving a truck crane owned by W. O. Grubb Steel of North Chesterfield, Va., north on the interstate when he encountered a backup of traffic taking the exit ramp, police said.

When he swerved to avoid the backup, the truck crane flipped onto its left side, according to police.
