A Lancaster man has died from multiple injuries received in a single-vehicle accident last week.
Wilbert Lloyd, 79, of 4514 Rowell Road, died Thursday, April 7, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he was flown after the wreck on S.C. 903 near Bob White Road on April 5, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred about 11 a.m. as Lloyd was traveling west on Flat Creek Road in a 1967 Chevrolet pickup truck. SCHP Lance Cpl. Gary Miller said Lloyd ran off the right side of the road. The truck hit a curb at a private drive and then struck a tree.
Lloyd and his passenger, 59-year-old Willie Wright of Lancaster, were trapped inside the wreckage and had to be extricated by rescue crews. Wright was also flown to CMC. His condition was not available Tuesday.
Miller said the accident remains under investigation.
Lloyd’s obituary said he was the father of three adult children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a Vietnam War veteran who retired from the U.S. Navy and was an avid outdoorsman who loved country music.
Lloyd was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church, where he was buried Monday, April 11.
