Fairfield, IA : Fairfield man dies in head-on crash in the 2600 block of Highway 1 on Friday, 17th January, 2020

A Fairfield man was killed in a head-on collision early Friday morning, Jan. 18, south of Fairfield.

Richard Dwayne Boyd Jr., 50, was pronounced dead at the scene after his vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by Tylor James Lewman, 28, of Birmingham. Lewman was injured in the collision and taken by Midwest Ambulance to the Jefferson County Health Center.

The collision occurred at 1:08 a.m. in the 2600 block of Highway 1 about half way between Fairfield and Birmingham. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Boyd’s vehicle was traveling north at the time when he crossed the center line and struck Lewman’s vehicle traveling south. Boyd’s vehicle came to rest in the east ditch and Lewman’s came to rest in the west ditch.

The accident remains under investigation.
