QUINCY, IL : Three car crash at 48th and Broadway injures one on Tuesday, 21st January, 2020
One driver was injured in a three-car crash that slowed traffic at 48th Street and Broadway on Tuesday morning.
The Quincy Police Department said that Oswaldo Ballestreros of Quincy was driving south on 48th Street in a 2016 Lincoln MKZ at 10:01 a.m. Police say his vehicle, which failed to stop at the red light at the intersection, struck the passenger side of a 2014 Mustang driven by Ian M. Cooper of Quincy. Cooper was driving west on Broadway.
Cooper's vehicle then crashed into a 2015 Chevrolet truck driven by Clayton S. Schmid of Heyworth, which was in the eastbound lane of Broadway and had stopped because of the earlier crash.
Cooper was taken to Blessing Hospital by Adams County Ambulance Service for treatment.
Ballestreros told officers that his right knee was swollen due to recent knee replacement surgery and he was unable to remove his right foot from the accelerator, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle. Ballestreros was cited at the scene for failure to abide by a traffic control device.
