Columbus, IN : 7-year-old boy fatally injured, father badly hurt in central Indiana moped crash on Tuesday, October 28, 2014

A 7-year-old Columbus boy was killed in a moped accident in the southbound lanes of U.S. 31 near Shady Lane at about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Columbus Police said. Skyler Bruner was a passenger on a moped driven by his father Darrell W. Bruner, 29, according to Sgt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police spokesman. Skyler Bruner was transported by helicopter to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis where he died at 11:45 p.m., Harris said. Justin A. Lucas, 26, Columbus, told police he was traveling south in the left lane of U.S. 31 in a 2014 Jeep Cherokee and did not see the moped before hitting it. Witnesses told police the moped had a rear light that was dim and difficult to see. Darrell Bruner was transported by ambulance to Columbus Regional Hospital and then by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he is listed in critical condition, Harris said.
