An off-duty police officer witnessed a fatal hit-and-run on Interstate 80 in Pinole and alerted authorities who pursued and arrested her.
The California Highway Patrol says the Berkeley police officer saw the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu weave in and out of the slow lane early Sunday before crashing into a Toyota Corolla that stopped on the highway's shoulder.
The collision killed a 28-year-old Martinez man who was checking a tire.
The officer saw the driver take off and followed her vehicle. He alerted the CHP, whose officers eventually caught up with the suspect and pulled her over in Vacaville.
The suspect, 31-year-old Keri Cache of Oakland, was booked for investigation of driving under the influence, causing the loss of life, fatal hit-and-run and driving with a suspended license.
