San Marcos, TX : Southbound Interstate-35 now open after fatal early morning crash on Wednesday September 28 2016
An early morning crash killed one person and snarled traffic on southbound Interstate 35 Wednesday in San Marcos.
According to police, a tractor-trailer struck road debris that disabled the trailer’s air brakes, causing the vehicle to stop in the right southbound lane of I-35 on the McCarty Lane overpass at around 2 a.m.
A black Lexus, driven southbound by 30-year-old Eric Edwin of Cibolo, collided with the trailer and sent debris into the other lanes, shutting down the interstate. A passenger in the front of the sedan, 45-year-old Donald Eugene Wilson of San Marcos, 45, died at the scene of the crash. Edwin was transported by San Marcos-Hays County EMS to St. David’s South Austin and is expected to recover.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured. The trailer was loaded with bottled water.
Crews were able to clear the blocked lanes and open the interstate by 7:30 a.m.
San Marcos Police Collision Investigation Team officers continue their investigation and were assisted by Texas DPS Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement troopers and officers from Kyle Police Department Collision Team.
