Galien, MI : Elkhart woman injured in motorcycle crash in Berrien County on Sunday evening, July 10, 2016
An Elkhart woman was seriously injured Sunday evening following a motorcycle crash in Berrien County.
According to a report from the Berrien County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Route 12 at Hampton Road, just west of Galien.
Deputies said Gloria Helenbolt, 50, of Elkhart, was traveling west on U.S. 12 on a motorcycle when she crossed the center line, striking three eastbound vehicles.
The motorcycle sideswiped a Volvo station wagon, driven by Margaret Cross, 21, of Lake Forest, Ill., then sideswiped a Honda SUV driven by Roy Kavlock, 69, of Three Oaks, deputies said. Helenbolt's motorcycle then collided head-on with a Kia SUV driven by Christina Denis, 27, of New Buffalo.
Deputies said Helenbolt was not wearing a helmet. She was taken to Memorial Hospital of South Bend with serious injuries, police said.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
