Summit Twp, MI : Motorist died a car crash on Francis St. in Jackson on Monday, May 16, 2016
Michigan State Police have released the name of a motorist who died after leading a Jackson County Sheriff's deputy in a brief chase Monday, May 16.
The driver was Devin Lamar Young, 19, of Jackson.
At 4:42 p.m., Young was pulled over by a sheriff's deputy on Francis Street near Overhill Road. Young sped away as the deputy approached the vehicle, police said in a press release.
Based on initial findings by state police, Young fled the scene southbound on Francis Street driving erratically and leaving the road at least two times before hitting a tree near the intersection of Francis and Trumble Street.
The impact caused extensive damage to the vehicle, causing it to quickly become engulfed in flames, police said.
The official cause of death has not yet been determined and is pending medical examiner's findings.
State police are still investigating the incident.
