A Springfield woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident at 3:54 a.m. Thursday on Route U at Missouri Highway 43 in Seneca, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Sherry L. Sappington, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by a Newton County deputy coroner, the state patrol said.
Sappington was driving an eastbound car and failed to stop for a stop sign at the T-intersection. Her vehicle crossed the highway and struck a fence and a tree, the patrol said.
• Three people sustained minor injuries in a single-vehicle accident at 1:25 p.m. Thursday on Cedar Drive, three miles south of Joplin in Newton County, the state patrol said.
The driver of the vehicle, James S. Cotten, 24, of Joplin, and two passengers, Dakota K. Ogden, 24, of Carthage, and Joshua J. Paonessa, 28, of Joplin, were taken to Mercy Hospital Joplin, the patrol said.
Their westbound pickup truck ran off the road and struck a tree, the patrol said.
