A crash Tuesday morning in Isle of Wight County left one person dead, according to state police.
Spokeswoman Michelle Anaya said in a news release that the wreck happened around 5:52 a.m. at the intersection of Route 10 and Berry Hill Road, northwest of Smithfield and west of the Smithfield Foods processing plant.
An alert from Isle of Wight County said that the highway would be closed at the intersection for several hours while crews worked to clear it. State police haven’t provided any other information; Anaya said the crash is still under investigation.
This is the second fatal crash on Route 10 in 2019. Two people were killed in a head-on collision in May about three miles north of Tuesday’s crash.
