A 2-month-old child died and two others were injured in a vehicle crash Tuesday on Interstate 35 near the Border Patrol checkpoint, according to DPS.
The child was identified as Alejandro Fernandez, of Laredo.
The crash occurred when a Chevrolet Tahoe struck a tractor-trailer at about 3:30 p.m.
The Tahoe had three occupants, the Texas Department of Public Safety said. One passenger was airlifted to a San Antonio hospital while the driver and Fernandez were taken to Doctors Hospital, according to DPS. DPS said Fernandez was later pronounced dead.
The truck driver was not injured, according to DPS.
The Texas Department of Transportation said at about 4:40 p.m. that the South I-35 lanes had been shutdown. Traffic was being detoured to the southbound frontage road prior to the scene of the crash, then re-entering I-35 southbound mainlanes thereafter.
