LITCHFIELD, ME : Motorcycle crash kills Litchfield man on Sunday,20th May 2018
A Litchfield man died Sunday morning after the motorcycle he was riding struck a utility pole on Oak Hill Road.
Derek Parker, 35, died at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Parker, according to Seth Allen, a specialist with Maine State Police, was riding his Honda CRF 450 dirt bike, an off-road motorcycle, on a public way, Oak Hill Road, when he went off the road on a curve, struck the pole and crashed into trees.
Toxicology tests were pending Sunday morning. Allen said alcohol might have been a factor, as well as speed.
Parker was not wearing a helmet, police said.
He was taken to the hospital by Gardiner Rescue. A Lifeflight helicopter was requested at the scene but was unable to respond to the request, Allen said.
The accident took place around 10:20 a.m.
Oak Hill Road, where the accident occurred and where Parker resided, is a narrow, rural paved road between Route 197 and Buker Road.
No other vehicles or people were involved in the accident, and there were no witnesses, according to Allen.
Parker was discovered by a friend who went looking for him when he didn’t come back from the ride.
Trooper Lauren Roddy is the primary investigator in the incident. State police, Litchfield Fire and Gardiner Rescue went to the scene.
