Sacramento, CA : Motorcyclist dies following crash on Sierra Highway on Wednesday, 31st August, 2016
A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday morning following a crash on Sierra Highway just south of Sand Canyon Road, an officer from the California Highway Patrol said.
Officer Michele Bond said the crash occurred along Sand Canyon Road and Sierra Highway at 10:59 a.m. Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Richard Licon said units were dispatched to the area at 11:01 a.m. and were on scene at 11:04 a.m.
The motorcyclist was transported to Henry Mayo Hospital where he later died from injuries sustained during the crash, Bond said.
One driver witnessed the accident occur in front of her.
Andrea D., who asked for her last name not to be mentioned, saw the motorcyclist begin to lose control of his bike as she went around one of the bends on Sand Canyon Road.
“I saw him struggling with handlebars of the bike and I saw him starting to lose control,” she said.
Andrea D. said she saw the motorcyclist go onto the hillside and hit a dirt patch. The motorcyclist laid the bike down while it was moving and began sliding along the road, she said. Andrea quickly turned her car and swerved out of the way to avoid hitting the driver, who slid into the guardrails of the road.
“I could see him sliding by me and I could see his bike split in two and he disappeared,” she said. “I’m assuming he went down into the embankment.”
Andrea noted that CHP was addressing another call and was on the scene within moments of the incident.
CHP said it is still investigating the accident.
