Silver City, SD : Minnesota man killed in motorcycle crash near Pactola Reservoir and rolled into a ditch on Thursday, September 18, 2014

A Minnesota man died Thursday after his motorcycle left the road near Pactola Reservoir and rolled into a ditch. Ernest Swihart, 71, of Minnetonka, Minn., died in the Life Flight helicopter ambulance en route to Rapid City Regional Hospital. According to South Dakota Highway Patrol Lt. David Berkley, at about 11 a.m. Swihart was riding alone on Silver City Road near the intersection with Jenny Gulch Road when the motorcycle left the roadway and traveled about 30 yards into a ditch. Passersby lifted the motorcycle off Swihart, Berkley said. Swihart was wearing a helmet, Berkley said. The Highway Patrol is continuing the investigation.
