CHARLOTTE, NC : CMPD officer remains hospitalized after deadly I-485 ramp crash on Thursday, 21st August 2024

A day after a gnarly crash injured two Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers and killed another person, one of the officers remains in the hospital.
The wreck happened on the off ramp from I-485 Outer to Mt. Holly Road around 10:30 a.m. Thursday after a RV slammed into two CMPD cars. The officers had been on the shoulder investigating a report of a stolen car.
Drone footage of the scene showed one of the CMPD cruisers with damage so heavy it was barely recognizable. The officer inside was pinned in until firefighters cut him out. The RV ended up on its side on the shoulder of the ramp.
