Wichita, KS : 60-year-old truck driver killed in a fiery crash on US-166 highway in southeast Kansas on Monday, December 21, 2015

A 60-year-old truck driver was killed Monday afternoon in a fiery crash in extreme southeast Kansas, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The fatality victim was identified as Juan Carlos Garcia, of Wichita.

According to the patrol, the crash occurred at 3:50 p.m. Monday when Garcia was driving a 2003 International semi-trailer west on US-166 highway about 6 miles west of K-99 highway.

For an unknown reason, the rig went left of center on US-166, then entered the south ditch, where it struck a rock embankment and rolled. It came to rest on its driver’s side before catching fire.

Garcia was taken to Sedan City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The patrol’s crash log didn’t indicate whether Garcia was wearing a seat belt.
