SUNOL, CA : Minor-injury truck crash at the Koopman Road off-ramp on Wednesday, 22nd April, 2020
All lanes of southbound Interstate 680 reopened Wednesday afternoon after an early-morning tanker-truck crash blocked lanes and spilled diesel fuel, authorities said.
Just before 2:50 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers learned of the crash at the Koopman Road off-ramp, and issued a Sig-alert closing all lanes at 3:06 a.m., CHP Officer Damian Cistaro said.Firefighters from the Alameda County Fire and Livermore-Pleasanton Fire departments also responded, and took one person to an area hospital for a report of minor injuries.
A hazardous-materials crew responded to the truck, handling a spill about of 225 pounds of diesel fuel that spilled into dirt at the crash site, and managing to safely transfer at least 2,500 pounds worth of 99 percent ethanol from the tanker to another container, CHP Officer Tyler Hahn said Wednesday afternoon.
After lane closures that backed up traffic onto the Sunol Grade into midday, all lanes reopened shortly after 2:40 p.m.
