LACKAWANNA, NY : Route 5 reopens following propane tanker crash near Buffalo on Wednesday, December 21st 2016
A business stretch near Buffalo has reopened after being evacuated for several hours as crews removed propane from a tanker truck that overturned near a gas station.
Authorities say the tanker was traveling on Route 5 around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday when it collided with a pickup truck and rolled onto its side in the city of Lackawanna, just south of Buffalo.
The crash caused the tanker to leak propane gas, which firefighters vented through hoses and ignited at a safe distance from the tanker. Officials say the tanker held nearly 3,000 gallons of propane.
Three people in the two vehicles suffered minor injuries.
The crash occurred at an intersection near a gas station and other businesses.
Route 5 was later reopened at about 5 p.m.
