LONG BRANCH, NJ : Woman killed by SUV driven by off-duty police detective on Friday, September 22nd 2017

Authorities say a woman was struck and killed by an SUV driven by an off-duty police detective.

Monmouth County prosecutors say the accident occurred around 10:15 p.m. Friday in Long Branch.

The SUV driven by city detective Jake Pascucci struck 60-year-old Stanhope resident Karen Borkowski, who was attempting to cross the street at the time. She was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

No charges have been filed in the accident, but authorities say the investigation is ongoing. The prosecutor’s office is handling the investigation instead of city police to avoid any potential conflicts of interest.
