Broward County, FL : 27-year-old man died when his motorcycle collided with an 18-wheel tanker truck in Pompano Beach on Wednesday, January 20, 2016
A 27-year-old man died in Pompano Beach Wednesday when his motorcycle collided with a tanker truck, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.
Robert Hayes, of Fort Lauderdale, was identified by the sheriff's office as the motorcycle rider.
The tanker, an 18-wheel International, was traveling north on North Andrews Avenue and slowed to begin a right turn into a business in the 1200 block, the sheriff's office said.
Hayes was behind the truck and "aggressively applied" the rear brakes of his Honda motorcycle, according to the sheriff's office.
The motorcycle skidded for more than 65 feet before falling. It slid about 62 more feet before colliding with the truck's trailer, according to Sheriff's Spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue pronounced Hayes dead at the crash site, that agency said.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was identified as Robbie Dutton, 48, of Dade City. He was not charged in the investigation, which is continuing, Coleman-Wright said.
