SOUTH DAYTONA, FL : DeLand man killed in motorcycle crash on Magnolia Avenue in South Daytona on Wednesday, 3rd July 2024

A 26-year-old man was killed late Wednesday night when he struck a tree during a motorcycle crash in South Daytona, according to police.

South Daytona police on Thursday said Luke Tyler Smith, of DeLand, died in the wreck, which happened around 8:15 p.m. on Magnolia Avenue near Temple Road.

According to police, officers were called to the area and found Smith suffering from injuries. First responders performed life-saving measures, but Smith was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

In a statement, police said Smith was operating the motorcycle in a “careless manner,” causing him to lose control of the bike. Smith was ejected from the motorcycle and struck a tree, police said.
