Winona, MN : 2 dead, 5 injured in Trempealeau County head-on crash on Sunday afternoon, January 1, 2017

Two people were killed, another two left in critical condition, and three others injured after a head-on crash Sunday afternoon in Trempealeau County.

A white four-door vehicle was northbound on state Hwy. 93 shortly before 12:20 p.m. in the town of Chimney Rock when it crossed the centerline and struck a southbound gray four-door vehicle, according to the Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department.

Two of the four occupants in the white vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others in the vehicle were transported by helicopter to Mayo in Rochester in critical condition, the department said.

The two occupants of the gray SUV were transported by ambulance to Mayo in Eau Claire with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, with the driver also suffering minor and non-life-threatening injuries, the department said.
