MAPLETON, IL : Mapleton man dies in ATV crash on April, Saturday 1st 2017

A Mapleton man died after an ATV crash on his property Friday night.

Daniel T. Johanson, 56, was found after family members notified authorities late Friday after he failed to return home and the family dog — rarely not at his side — alerted them that there was something wrong.

After a search, Johanson was found at the rear of his Smithville Road property and pronounced dead at 1:18 am. Saturday. He was found on the ground with a helmet on and the ATV upright, though a portion of it had apparently landed on him, according to a news release from Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.

An autopsy is expected Saturday, Harwood said.
