Brevard County, FL : 17-year-old girl killed, 2 others hurt on I-95 crash in Brevard County on Monday, 1st February 2021

One 17-year-old girl was killed and another was critically injured in a crash Monday morning in Interstate 95 in Brevard County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Both girls, from Merritt Island, were passengers in a 2014 Kia Optima driven by a 20-year-old Palm Bay man, the FHP said.

The man was speeding north on the highway when he abruptly changed lanes, colliding with a 1999 Ford van, before leaving the highway and hitting several trees, according to the report.

Charges are pending against the Kia driver, who was seriously injured.

The 37-year-old Fellsmere woman driving the van was not hurt.

The crash took place at about 9 a.m. near mile marker 177.
