North Verrado Way, AZ : Buckeye police motorcycle officer injured in crash on Wednesday, 27th March 2019

A Buckeye police officer was injured after an SUV collided with his motorcycle on Wednesday near North Verrado Way and Canyon Drive in Buckeye, the Buckeye Police Department said.

Police said the 35-year-old officer, a 9½-year department veteran, sustained serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries. He was transported by helicopter to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.

The officer was hurt about 1 p.m. as he was responding to a medical emergency at a local elementary school, police said.

The motorcycle officer was traveling north on Verrado Way when he collided with a Jeep SUV, whose driver was not hurt but remained at the scene, police said.

Verrado Way was closed in the area after the crash.
