Fort Collins, CO : Woman killed in U.S. Highway 287 crash identified on Wednesday, February 1st 2017
The woman killed in a traffic crash along U.S. Highway 287 north of Fort Collins during Wednesday's rare ice storm has been identified.
The Larimer County Corner's office said Courteney Saeman, 21, of Denver, died in the crash that occurred about 4:40 p.m. on U.S. 287 near Larimer County Road 72 (Owl Canyon Road), which is about 13 miles north of Fort Collins.
According to Colorado State Patrol, Saeman was driving a 2002 Elantra Hyundai southbound when she lost control on a curve and ended up in the northbound lane, where she was struck by a 2013 Subaru Legacy driven by 53-year-old Cheryl Orr of nearby Livermore.
Orr sustained serious injury and was taken to Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins.
5 killed in Northern Colorado crashes Wednesday night
The two were the only two occupants in the vehicles. CSP reported fog, sleet, icy roads and speed were contributing factors to the crash. No drugs or alcohol are suspected and no charges are pending.
CSP reported five fatalities Wednesday evening in Northern Colorado when the ice storm struck. Those included one in Larimer County, three in Weld County and one in Morgan County.
According to the county corner's office, there have been four fatalities in the county this year, including the latest one Thursday night when a pedestrian was fatally struck along South Taft Hill Road.
Colorado has seen approximately 40 fatalities this year and more than 600 last year, according to CSP.
