Denver, CO: I-76 reopen after fatal collision in westbound lanes on Wednesday, February 15th 2017
A semi-truck driver died after colliding with the rear of a passenger vehicle, and losing control of his truck on westbound Interstate 76 near Federal Boulevard Wednesday morning.
The two-vehicle accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. The truck was hauling organic waste, said Trooper Nate Reid, of the Colorado State Patrol.
“Somehow, both are travelling westbound and the semi collides with the back of the (Chevrolet) Impala, sending it into the median,” Reid said.
The male truck driver got the truck back on the road, but lost control and it careened off the right shoulder, rolling one-and-one-quarter times down an embankment. He was ejected and died at the scene.
The woman driving the Impala may have minor injuries, but refused medical care, Reid said.
The left westbound lane remains closed as debris from the Impala is removed. The two other lanes are now open.
Colorado Department of Transportation reopened the highway just before 10 a.m..
