RENO, NV : 1 dead in I-580 crash with unhitched trailer in south Reno on April, Thursday 6th 2017
One person was killed when a car crashed into a trailer that came unhitched from a truck on Interstate 580 on the south edge of Reno, closing down part of the highway for several hours.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Dan Gordon said the unhitched utility trailer zig-zagged across the road at about 9 a.m. Thursday near the exit for the Mount Rose Highway.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. Southbound lanes remained closed Thursday afternoon.
Gordon says he doesn’t think the accident was caused by high winds ahead of a storm moving into the Sierra.
The National Weather Service reported winds gusting up to 85 mph. The Tahoe area is under a winter storm warning through 5 p.m. Saturday. As much as 4 feet of snow is possible in the upper elevations.
