West Covina, CA : Seven people injured after a crash following a police pursuit in West Covina on Monday, July 18, 2016
Seven people, including an infant, were injured Monday after a crash involving a pursuit suspect and two other vehicles, authorities said.
A West Covina police officer tried to pull over a car at 7:52 p.m. at Francisquito and Walnut avenues, when the driver did not comply and instead lead police on a short pursuit, Lt. David Lee said.
The car did not stop and drove ahead of the patrol car, he said, when the suspect drove through a stop sign at the intersection.
The Honda struck a Ford Expedition, and the impact caused a secondary crash with a third car.
The suspect, Robert Lopez, 26, of La Puente, was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Lee said.
Five people, including a baby girl, were in critical condition, West Covina Fire Capt. Esteban Rodriguez said. Two other victims were in moderate condition.
Lopez is being investigated for a possible DUI and a possible warrant.
The California Highway Patrol will take over the investigation, Lee said.
