Lehigh Acres, FL : Bicylist dead in fatal Lehigh hit-and-run crash on Friday night, November 7, 2014
A bicyclist is dead after a hit-and-run crash in Lehigh Acres Friday night.
It happened on Sunshine Boulevard -- just south of 13th Street West -- at 11:10 p.m.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers say the bicyclist was riding in the southbound lane of the Sunshine Boulevard without the proper lighting for night-time riding.
At the same time an unknown vehicle was driving south on Sunshine Boulevard and struck the front of the bicycle. That vehicle left the scene. The bicyclist - later identified as 45-year-old Charles Todd Snyder - died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Misty and Andy Snyder woke up to devastating news Saturday morning; their older brother Charles had been killed by a driver who sped off following the crash.
The father of two was biking home from a football game late Friday night on Sunshine Boulevard in LeHigh Acres when he was struck.
The driver did nothing to help the injured biker.
"It's such a shock knowing somebody could be that cold," says Andy, Charles' younger brother. "How can you make an accident like that and not help someone?"
"I thinkthat'ss the hardest part to understand," saysSnyder'ss sister Misty. "I think it was pretty obvious that something had happened. We'd really like to be able to tell his sons what happened.
For that to happen, the Snyders need your help.
Florida Highway Patrol believes it was a light colored or red car with damage to the right front headlight that was involved in the crash,
For the Snyder family, it's all about closure.
"To have that peace of mind, that it would give all of us, just to know what happened is what we want."
