Anchorage, AK : Eric Studnek, 25, injuries after ATV collided with a Jeep on the Old Glenn Highway on Sunday, May 3, 2015
An Anchorage man was seriously injured on the Old Glenn Highway Sunday evening, when Alaska State Troopers say his all-terrain vehicle collided with a car on the Old Glenn Highway.
Troopers said 25-year-old Eric Studnek was riding the ATV involved in the collision at Mile 9 of the Old Glenn with driver Garrison Vanickle, 20. According to a Monday AST dispatch, troopers responded to the scene at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday.
“Investigation revealed (Studnek) failed to stop prior to crossing the highway and collided with a 1997 Jeep, driven by (Vanickle),” troopers wrote. “Studnek was airlifted by LifeMed (air ambulance) to Providence (Alaska) Medical Center for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”
AST spokeswoman Megan Peters said Monday afternoon that initial rumors indicating a 4-year-old boy was riding the ATV and had been medevaced were inaccurate.
"There was no child associated with the case -- it was just adults," Peters said.
Viewer Gena Grunwald said in a post on Channel 2’s Facebook page that the rush of responders to the scene disrupted traffic Sunday.
“There were tons of emergency vehicles,” Grunwald wrote. “Many of us had to turn around and go back through Palmer to get home to Knik River Road.”
Troopers had said Studnek’s injuries were not life-threatening. A call to Providence staff for word on his condition wasn’t immediately returned Monday afternoon.
