Brown County, KS : Nebraska man dies after a single-vehicle collision with tree in northeast Kansas on Saturday afternoon, July 30, 2016

One man is dead after a collision with a tree set fire to his vehicle in northeast Kansas, the Kansas Highway Patrol said in an online crash log.

The patrol said Cole Bergen, 27, of Orleans, Neb., died after crashing at 12:25 a.m. Saturday on 270th Street two miles east of Sabetha, in Brown County.

Bergen, driver of a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado, overcorrected and struck the tree head-on after his vehicle ran into a northside ditch, the patrol said. The Silverado flipped onto its top and caught fire, leaving Bergen trapped inside.

Bergen died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, the patrol said.

The Nebraska State Patrol assisted at the scene of the incident.
