An Oregon man was killed Thursday in a two-vehicle crash between Carey and Arco near the Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve.
According to the Idaho State Police, Jeremy Sommers, 22, of West Valley, Utah, was driving westbound on US 20/26/93 in a 2003 Peterbilt semi-truck pulling three trailers loaded with hay bales. At approximately 11:50 a.m. at milepost 222, the rear trailer flipped over onto its driver’s side, spilling the load of hay into the eastbound travel lane.
Ryan James Yancey, 31, of Portland, Oregon, who was driving eastbound in a 2013 Freightliner semi-truck pulling a 2014 utility box trailer, struck some of the hay bales in the road. He then struck a large snow berm off the south side of the highway.
