Orange County, FL : Woman died in pickup truck crash on Friday December 18 2015
A woman was killed in a crash in east Orange County. Troopers said it's the time of year when deadly wrecks happen all too often.
It happened around 5 p.m. on Friday afternoon. A man was driving a pickup truck southbound on the Econ Trail and ran into a woman who pulled out of a neighborhood, trying to make a turn. The pickup truck slammed into a wall and crashed into the woman's vehicle. She died as a result of the crash.
He was not able to stop," said Sgt. Kim Montes with the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash was originally thought to be a hit-and-run, but Montes said investigators found the other vehicle a quarter of a mile down the road.
We think due to his injuries and the fence is the only thing that kept him from going into that pond," Montes said.
According to the FHP, there have been a total of 13 fatal crashes in Central Florida over the last week. Thirteen fatal crashes were also reported around this time last year, officials said. They normally see two to five per week.
We need people to pay attention, not take risks when you're coming from a side street. Need to make sure there's no traffic coming," Montes said.
The man driving the pickup has serious injuries, but his son was not injured. FHP doesn't want to repeat this trend, and asks that drivers pay closer attention this week.
We don't want to have anyone else killed before Christmas, and unfortunately, we've had way too may crashes that could have been prevented," Montes said.
The woman was 68 years old and from Winter Park.
