MEADVILLE, PA : Driver identified in fatal West Mead pedestrian crash on Thursday, January, 25th 2018
The Pennsylvania State Police have identified the driver and the vehicle involved in a pedestrian crash in West Mead Township that killed a township man on Thursday morning.
Police said Friday that the driver, 59-year-old Richard Slingluff, came forward and was interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation into the crash on Leslie Road in West Mead Township that killed 59-year-old township resident John J. Kellick sometime between 12:01 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Kellick, of Raymond Drive, off Leslie Road, was found dead lying on the roadway on Leslie Road, just north of Route 27, on Thursday at about 4:30 a.m. Crawford County Coroner Scott Schell said Kellick died of multiple blunt-force trauma and ruled the death as accidental.
State police in Meadville reported on Thursday that Kellick was walking on Leslie Road when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that then left the area. Kellick had a medical condition and might have been lying in the road at the time of the accident. Kellick was also wearing dark clothing and might have been mistaken for debris in the roadway, troopers reported.
Slingluff was driving a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 when the crash occurred, troopers reported Friday morning.
The investigation into the accident is continuing, troopers said.
