St. Helena Parish, LA : 23-year-old Greensburg man killed in a single-vehicle crash in St. Helena Parish on Thursday evening, January 1, 2015
A Greensburg man died from injuries he suffered in single-vehicle crash Thursday evening (Jan. 1) in St. Helena Parish, State Police said. Ramario R. Berry, 23, died at St. Helena Hospital, State Police said.
State Police said driver impairment is suspected in the crash.
Ramario was a passenger in a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Lamar B. Williams, 37, of Zachary. The vehicle was headed eastbound on Louisiana 38, near Louisiana 43, when it left the roadway for unknown reasons, struck a culvert and caught fire, State Police said.
Williams was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge with moderate injuries. "Impairment on his part is suspected at this time, and a toxicology sample was taken from him and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Charges are pending,'' State Police said in a news release Friday (Jan. 2).
A third passenger, Brandon Berry, 20, of Greensburg was transported to St. Helena Parish Hospital with minor injuries.
State Police said investigators were attempting to determine if the occupants had been wearing seat belts.
